Contrast Therapy & Guided Breathwork

The complete mind-body reset. Contrast therapy enhanced with professional breathwork coaching.

What Is Contrast Therapy & guided Breathwork?

This is our most comprehensive recovery experience. It combines the full contrast therapy protocol — alternating rounds of sauna and ice bath — with guided breathwork techniques coached by a professional throughout your session.

Breathwork is the practice of using intentional breathing patterns to influence your nervous system, your mental state, and your body’s response to stress. When combined with the thermal stress of contrast therapy, breathwork deepens the physiological benefits and adds a powerful mental and emotional dimension to the session.

During the sauna phase, guided breathing techniques help you relax deeper into the heat, promoting greater vasodilation and a more complete release of tension. During the ice bath phase, coached breathing is your anchor — it helps you manage the initial cold shock, control your heart rate, and activate your parasympathetic nervous system (your body’s “rest and recover” mode). The result is a session that doesn’t just recover your body — it resets your entire nervous system.

Sessions are private, last approximately 50–60 minutes, and are available by request. This is ideal for clients who want the deepest possible recovery experience, or anyone looking to build stress resilience and mental clarity alongside physical recovery.

Why Add Breathwork? The Benefits.

Adding guided breathwork to contrast therapy elevates the experience from a physical recovery session to a complete mind-body reset. Here’s what this combination delivers:

  • Deeper Nervous System Reset: Breathwork activates the parasympathetic nervous system more effectively than cold exposure alone. Combined with contrast therapy, this creates a profound state of calm that many clients describe as the most relaxed they’ve ever felt.

  • Greater Stress Resilience: Learning to control your breath under the discomfort of cold exposure trains your brain and body to stay composed under pressure. This skill transfers directly to high-stress situations in daily life, sport, and work.

  • Enhanced Mental Clarity & Focus: The combination of thermal cycling and focused breathing produces a significant boost in norepinephrine and dopamine. Clients consistently report sharper thinking, reduced brain fog, and a grounded sense of calm that lasts for hours.

  • Improved Emotional Regulation: Breathwork helps you process and release stored tension and emotional stress. Many clients find that the combination of heat, cold, and breath produces a powerful emotional release — leaving them feeling lighter and more balanced.

  • Full Mind-Body Recovery: While standard contrast therapy targets physical recovery, adding breathwork addresses the mental and emotional layers. This makes it the most complete recovery experience we offer.

The ultimate reset for

body, mind, and focus.

What to Expect During Your Session

This session follows the contrast therapy structure with breathwork woven throughout each phase:

Arrive & Set Your Intention. Check in and get comfortable. Your breathwork coach will introduce the session, explain the breathing techniques, and help you set a clear intention for the experience.

Sauna + Guided Breathing. Enter the sauna and begin with deep, guided breathing. The coach will lead you through techniques designed to enhance relaxation, deepen the heat’s effect, and calm your mind.

Ice Bath + Coached Breathing. Move to the ice bath with your coach guiding your breath in real time. Slow, controlled breathing helps you override the cold shock response, lower your heart rate, and stay present in the cold.

Repeat & Deepen. Complete 2–3 rounds of heat and cold with breathwork throughout. Each round deepens the effect as your body and mind settle into the rhythm.

Rest & Integrate. After your final round, spend a few minutes in quiet rest. Your coach may guide a short closing breathwork sequence to help your body integrate the full experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We use a combination of diaphragmatic breathing, box breathing, and guided relaxation techniques. The specific methods are adapted to each phase of the session — slower and deeper in the sauna, more controlled and rhythmic in the ice bath.

  • Not at all. The session is fully guided and suitable for complete beginners. Your coach will explain every technique before you start and will guide you in real time throughout the session.

  • The thermal protocol (sauna and ice bath rounds) is the same, but the addition of guided breathwork deepens the nervous system response, enhances your mental focus, and adds an emotional and psychological dimension to the recovery experience.

  • All sessions at Go Sauna & Ice Bath are completely private. It’s just you (and a partner if you choose) with your breathwork coach in a calm, dedicated space.

  • Come hydrated and avoid heavy meals for at least an hour before your session. Wear comfortable swimwear and bring a towel, water bottle, and flip flops. Most importantly, come with an open mind — the experience often exceeds expectations.
