Contrast Therapy
Alternating sauna and ice bath for the ultimate recovery and circulation boost.
What Is Contrast Therapy?
Contrast therapy is the structured alternation between heat (sauna) and cold (ice bath) within a single session. You’ll move between the sauna and ice bath in timed rounds, typically spending 10–15 minutes in the heat followed by 1–3 minutes in the cold, repeated for 2–3 cycles.
This hot-cold protocol creates a powerful “vascular pumping” effect: heat causes your blood vessels to expand (vasodilation) while cold causes them to contract (vasoconstriction). This rhythmic cycling flushes metabolic waste from your muscles, delivers fresh oxygenated blood to your tissues, and triggers a potent recovery response throughout your body.
Contrast therapy is our most popular service — and for good reason. It combines the best of both sauna and ice bath into a single, time-efficient session that leaves you feeling reset from head to toe. Sessions last approximately 45–50 minutes and are completely private.
Why Contrast Therapy? The Benefits.
By combining heat and cold, contrast therapy delivers a broader range of benefits than either modality alone. Here’s what you can expect:
Supercharged Recovery: The alternating hot and cold creates a pumping action in your circulatory system that flushes lactic acid and metabolic waste from your muscles. Athletes and active individuals recover faster and feel less sore.
Enhanced Circulation: The repeated expansion and contraction of blood vessels improves vascular function and elasticity over time, supporting long-term cardiovascular health.
Nervous System Regulation: Moving between heat and cold trains your autonomic nervous system to transition smoothly between activation and recovery. This improves your body’s ability to handle stress and maintain balance.
Elevated Mood & Mental Clarity: The combination of heat exposure and cold immersion triggers a significant release of endorphins, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Clients consistently report a natural high — a feeling of calm energy and sharp focus — after a contrast session.
Improved Sleep & Reduced Stress: Contrast therapy helps regulate your body’s stress response and promotes deeper, more restorative sleep. The post-session state of deep relaxation often lasts for hours.
Our most popular service for a reason.
What to Expect During Your Session
A contrast therapy session follows a structured protocol designed to maximise the benefits of both heat and cold:
Arrive & Prepare. Check in at the studio and get settled in your private space. We’ll explain the session structure and answer any questions.
Round 1 — Heat. Start in the sauna for 10–15 minutes. Let the deep heat relax your muscles, open your blood vessels, and raise your core temperature.
Round 1 — Cold. Move to the ice bath for 1–3 minutes. Focus on controlled breathing as the cold constricts your blood vessels and triggers your recovery response.
Repeat. Complete 2–3 rounds of heat and cold, depending on your experience level and comfort. Each round deepens the effect.
Cool Down & Reset. After your final round, take a moment to rest. Hydrate, breathe, and enjoy the powerful sense of calm and clarity that follows.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
A typical session includes 2–3 rounds of sauna (10–15 minutes each) and ice bath (1–3 minutes each). We’ll guide you through the timing to get the most out of each round.
-
Research and client experience suggest yes. The alternating hot and cold creates a vascular pumping effect that amplifies the benefits of both. You get deeper recovery, better circulation, and a stronger nervous system response than either treatment on its own.
-
Contrast therapy sessions are approximately 45–50 minutes, including all rounds and rest periods.
-
Yes. Contrast therapy is suitable for all fitness levels. We’ll adjust the temperature and timing to match your experience, and guide you through the entire process. If you have any medical conditions, please consult your doctor before booking.

Some first-timers may feel briefly lightheaded when moving between temperatures, which is a normal response to the rapid change. We ensure smooth transitions and encourage steady breathing throughout. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, we’ll adjust the session immediately.
